Fenerbahce Ulker took the big showdown atop the Turkish League standings by edging Efes Pilsen 79-60 at home on Sunday, in a rematch of last year's finals. Fenerbahce improved to 16-3 and ranks second right behind Efes, first at 17-2. Omer Onan led the winners with 20 points on 6-of-7 three-pointers. Emir Preldzic added 15, 8 rebounds and 6 assists, Lynn Greer and Roko Ukic each had 10 points while Oguz Savas pulled down 10 boards for FB Ulker. Bootsy Thornton led Efes with 16 points. Mario Kasun added 15 while Kaya Peker had 12 for the guests. A three-pointer by Kerem Tunceri and a basket by Thornton gave Efes a 17-22 edge after 10 minutes. Preldzic and Rasim Rasak stepped up to give FB Ulker a double-digit lead, 42-31, at halftime. Onan struck four times from downtown in the third quarter to make it a 15-point game, 58-43. A three-pointer by Igor Rakocevic got Efes within 63-58 with 4 minutes left but Preldzic, Greer and Ukic answered from beyond the arc to seal the outcome. Besiktas Cola Turka improved to 13-6 by topping Turk Telekom 78-95 in Ankara on Saturday. Lonny Baxter paced the winners with 23 points. Mire Chatman added 21, Muratcan Guler had 11 while Brad Newley got 10 for Besiktas. Kris Lang and Demond Mallet each had 16 points for Telekom, Lamayn Wilson added 13, Serkan Erdogan 12 and Erwin Dudley 10. Besiktas led 31-51 at halftime and managed to keep a safe lead until the final buzzer. Galatasaray Cafe Crown dropped to 9-10 due to a 95-102 overtime home loss against Banvit. Lance Williams and Charles Davis led the winners with 21 points apiece. Rado Rancik had 30 points for Galatasaray, Mike Wilkinson added 22 and Darius Washington 20. A three-pointer by Yigitcan Turna made Banvit force overtime, 83-83, and the guests dominated in the extra period. In other games, Aliaga Petkim downed Mersin 76-90, Bornova Belediye topped Antalya Bsb 79-92, Pinar Karsiyaka beat Erdemir 76-72, Tofas edged Kepez Belediye 82-77 while Darussafaka bested Oyak Renault 71-52.
